While I am fully trained and qualified in conventional proofreading, and have a good working knowledge of standard proofreading symbols, I also recognise that today's changing market often calls for a more IT-based approach. Most of the proofreading I have undertaken has been computer-based, using the 'Track Changes' function in Microsoft Word.
For the last two years, I have been working with WEC Publications to convert many of their old out-of-print books into ebook format. While software can be used to scan a printed book and convert it into a Word document, any marks on the page or unclear print can result in errors which need a human pair of eyes and a thorough and analytical approach in order to detect. In addition to proofreading, I also ensured that the texts were formatted correctly for conversion to epub, mobi and pdf formats according to the Smashwords style guide, and created an indexed table of contents and corresponding hyperlinks for each one. My portfolio consists of the twelve most recent books available to download here: I believe that the quality of my work speaks for itself.
Furthermore, I have undertaken the initial copy edit for a new book which is currently awaiting publication, also working with WEC Publications.
